What Does The World Display? What Does God Reveal?

Published on 04/28/24 by Dr-Shirley-Cheng.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them. For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse." (Romans 1:18-20, WEB)

Whereas Yahweh is righteous, humanity is generally unrighteous. It's toward the world's ungodliness that God's wrath is revealed. The fundamental unrighteousness of the world is the denial of Yahweh's existence despite the solid facts that prove He exists.

First, Yahweh revealed Himself to humanity through His creation. But when people reject this revelation of His divinity, He next revealed His wrath toward humankind.

No one has any excuse to deny the existence of God because God revealed Himself through His creative works. The strongest evidence of Yahweh's existence is His marvelous creation. His visible creation proves to everyone the existence of the invisible God and His awesome powers and divinity.

Let's logically think this through. Let us consider houses and buildings that we see around us every day. A building project requires careful design planning (including drawing a blueprint) and proper implementation of the plan, involving many skilled workers such as engineers, architects, surveyors, contractors, and so forth. Everyone has to do their job properly and skillfully execute the work. I believe we'd agree that when we look at a building, especially one as magnificently designed as the Eiffel Tower, that there were tremendous intelligent designers behind the design. No designer, no design. Where there is a building, there has to be a builder. Where there is a design, there has to be a designer. This is logic.

With this fact in mind, let us now consider our own bodies. Do you agree that they are much more marvelous than any building, even the grandest skyscrapers? Our bodies are incredible "machines." There are complicated "plumbing systems" (the blood and lymphatic systems) and delicate "electrical system" (the nervous system), not to mention all the various "workers" (hormonal system) that regulate everything, from body temperature to appetite to sleep. That's not all. We're not like robots that we make. We're able to reason, to think, to love and to hate. We know to choose right from wrong and feel sad when we witness injustice. Simply put, we ourselves are intelligent designs. Therefore, based on our factual conclusion, there has to be a highly intelligent Designer.

When something exists with a particular design and function, it means that someone designed and created it. This principle is applicable to everything and everyone: houses, computers, cars, and so forth, and our own bodies. This principle applies to everything we see around us: flowers, trees, clouds, the ground and sky with all the birds flying in the sky. All of these things, both the living and the non-living like rocks, are uniquely designed. Everything has a special design. This means that all things are created by a Designer. We call this Designer "God." He is our Creator. All that we see around us is His creation. His creation proves that He exists, just as a house proves that its builder existed.

When the world reveals to us of God's existence, we should glorify God for His majesty and creativity and give thanks to Him for His wondrous works and for giving us our very lives. Glorifying and thanking Him is only proper (Romans 1:21).

However, the world defies logic. People don't believe in God, not because they have no proof, but because they suppress the truth (Romans 1:18). Yes, unbelievers are not simply ignorant--they are willfully rebellious, suppressing the truth in unrighteousness. It's this disbelief that Yahweh is wrathful toward, and rightly so.

"Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things." (Romans 1:21-23)

People suppress the truth in unrighteousness and refuse to glorify God, displaying their foolishness and senselessness. The more they reject God, the more they become vain in their reasoning and senseless in their dark minds.

People who worshipped God's creatures, such as stars and animals and humans, rather than worshipping the Creator of those things, are wrong. They trade the glory of God for things that have no glory in themselves.

"The heavens declare the glory of God.
The expanse shows his handiwork.
Day after day they pour forth speech,
and night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech nor language,
where their voice is not heard.
Their voice has gone out through all the earth,
their words to the end of the world." (Psalm 19:1-4)

All the handiworks of God in the heavens--the glorious sun, moon, and stars--all testify to the fact that they are created by a highly intelligent Designer and to His glory. Creations of the world prove the existence of God; they constantly "speak out" and declare this fact. Anyone with average mental capacity who sees God's handiworks should therefore automatically know that there is a God. After all, things--especially such magnificent objects--cannot pop out from thin air. The big bang theory (and note that it's merely a theory, not a fact) defies logic and true science.

Sadly, many people who see the visible world deny the existence of God. By denying the natural revelation of God's existence and His powers, they have made themselves into fools. Worse, some even worship the creature, rather than the Creator, by making idols of animals to bow down to. Today, our idols are also our money, houses, cars, and power and fame.

When you lift up your eyes and see the sky, the sun and the moon, do you give honor where honor is due: to God?
